Private Town 03:31
All here We're here Some will, some won’t be here next year Or that's what I hear So it goes in the slow lane The sort of place where you go straight when you’re turning You know not everybody glows in the slow lane That's what I am learning The sun comes up and the day goes by and the sun goes down They call it two plus a day then they hide you away But you can’t get down It's like a private town Part two It's about you And what you may and may not do Bad day, long stay Where you don't ever get your way Here we go in the slow lane The sort of place where you go straight when you’re turning It's not impossible to grow in the slow lane That's what I am learning The sun comes up and the day goes by and the sun goes down They call it two plus a day then they hide you away But you can’t get down It's like a private town Entry level judgment lapses Personality non-clashes Uninvited flashlight flashes Self-awarded merit badges Miscellaneous mad dashes Unscheduled memory crashes Don't let them know where the cash is Get out before it collapses La-la, la-la-la-la La-la, la-la-la-la La-la La-la, la-la-la-la La-la, la-la-la-la La-la It’s like a private town

I don't know what it takes to get to heaven I just know that someday I wanna go home And I don't know if I’d call this life living I can't seem to find a place where I belong Carry me home To where I belong I’ve been on my own for so long Carry me home People say that love is the answer Some people say you gotta have hate I don't know if my soul is worth the saving I just want to know if it's too late For you to carry me home To where I belong Been on my own for so long Carry me home I've asked you to guide me so many times Don't I have some nerve? If your strength is inside me, why does it feel like you don't care? Is that what I deserve? Carry me home Carry me home

Felt like I was broken Felt like I was losing Felt like I was sinking deep down in the ground My enemies were hounding The hatred was pounding Your unfailing love just turned them around And then I was found And then I was found Oh yes, I was found and pulled up from the ground My everlasting light A love so divine You answered my prayer You hear my cry Long as I got you by my side I am prepared for every fight There is no love like yours A love you can see A love from the core There is no love like yours A love that is free Forever and more Sometimes I forget and try hard to progress Sometimes I procrastinate and settle for less I call on your name and the feelings I claim As I declare this is what I profess You bring the best out of me My faith in you is all that I see There is no love like yours A love you can see A love from the core There is no love like yours A love that is free Forever and more I am different now No more going around Had to calm myself down And this is what I found There is no love like yours There is no love like yours

I'm so sorry that you  Put both of us through all the unhappiness You walked all over me I was your enemy Now everything's a mess We always knew better But we could not resist We wish life hadn't turned out quite like this Please accept my apology Dear younger me Please accept my apology Dear younger me If we had only known that we could raise the tone Picture where we'd be now You thought you were so smart I watched us grow apart And we got lost somehow We always knew better But we could not resist We wish life hadn't turned out quite like this Please accept my apology Dear younger me Please accept my apology Dear younger me

I don't know who you think I am Or how you got that dumb look in your eye Just try and keep it together You'll be okay, dear Please don't cry I broke your heart And you broke mine too Maybe I'm not the girl you thought you knew Maybe I'm not the girl you thought you knew I don't know who you think you are You talk a lot and you say nothing at all You try so hard just to keep me up When I go down no one can stop my fall When I go down no one can stop this fall You broke my heart  And I broke yours too Maybe I'm not the girl you thought you knew Maybe I'm not the girl you thought you knew This is why I keep the bad ones by I don't cry so hard when they put me down They don't make me love the way the way you make me love You’re just too good to keep around You broke my heart You broke my heart I broke your heart I broke your heart You broke mine too I am not the girl you thought you knew

These four walls around me are caving in I wish someone could rescue me from the hell that I've been living in Ashes surrounding, like vacant sins When the dust and debris clears we'll see what tomorrow brings I used to close my eyes Fantasize what it felt like A second in a simple life I never realized I've been drowning in reality Surviving on merely dreams Four walls around me Four walls around me I'm losing my balance I'm off the grid I need a strong connection to my sanity  What am I bid? Familiars are waiting beneath my skin From dreams to reality Closer than you've ever been Four walls around me Four walls around me The smoke is clearing What can you see? You've watched me beg for mercy Did you hear anything? Bled out at your feet I'm down on my knees Paint a portrait with my pain You can do what you please Four walls around me Four walls around me Four walls around me Wickedness has found me I feel like I’m six deep The clouds just beyond my reach I'm drowning in my tears Demons crawl at my feet A second in a simple life

I've been walking down this old road Trying to find my way home These woods are dark and so cold The evil inside is coming out Misguided and misplaced loyalties To you I showed love And I was true Been treating scum like it was royalty The evil inside is coming through Time to choose Choose to live Die, love and hate Choose to feel fear and pain I'm skipping down this old road again I see the clearing at the end Light starts to shine through and hold The pain recedes I'm coming home Let me rearrange my delusions I'm not giving you answers or telling you why I'll survive my scars and contusions The pain subsides But I'm keeping you in the corner of my eye Time to lose this old skin Feel everything raw again Love and hate Fear and pain The evil inside is coming through

I wake up every morning thinking I can see your face But that just ain’t the case We can't even hear your voice on these winter days The shadow of your time is the only thing that stays I would love to see you smile On days like this we gather Watch our home videos Everybody knows That you were the happy one Or was that just a lie? The sound of your laugh The sound of your cry gets me by I would love to see you smile I would love to see you smile
9.
You're afraid the only thing I know Is everything I do not know Or you think I will lie because I'm weak To hide the secrets in my soul Maybe you believe I'm begging for another chance All I'm asking for is a show of hands I don’t want you to pat me on the back I don’t need you to do my hair I’ve been waiting in this empty room so long I just want to know you’re there This is not a manifesto or a change of plans All I'm asking for is a show of hands Everybody likes to get attention Even I am not immune to it I don't need an honorable mention I just need to do my bit This is one time I'm not waiting to be asked to dance You're stuck with me until I see  A show of hands A show of hands A show of hands

It’s crazy the things that you make me do They're all taboo Your love is so hot and I'm so ready But I can’t break through I'm not good enough for you Don't you hear my heart? Like a broken drum, it falls Our love has lost its flow Heartless tempo Can't your hear my soul? Like a river drying slow My high is running low Heartless tempo You just left me right here with no joy for tomorrow You just took all my love and left me with the sorrow Don't you hear my heart? Like a broken drum, it falls Our love has lost its flow Heartless tempo Can't your hear my soul? Like a river drying slow My high is running low Heartless tempo What did I do to deserve not to have you? Where should I go when your love is all I know? Wish that you were still here with me I wish that you were still here with me Broken drum Like a broken drum Like a broken drum Heartless tempo Can't you hear my soul?  Heartless tempo Heartless tempo Broken drum Goodbye

I declare, this is hard to say Unaware I would fly this way I know I look like I'm okay but I'm just okay ‘cause I lost it on the runway Welcome to my double-life day This is my first exposé I say yes and then I say no I'm all dressed for the final blow There am I, living life sky high And it’s Christmas in July I won't miss my double-life day This is my first exposé Don't you blame it on the money I did what I had to do It was a dumb one-way ticket The only way out is through I declare that's all I had to say I was there That was my double life day That was my double life day That was my double life day That was my double life day

about

Private Town, the 2nd album Aimee Copping produced inside the Grand Valley Institution for Women, is much more eclectic than the first album out of GVI in 2018 called Undisclosed Location. The expressive voices on the women’s album come forth in a mix of musical styles, blending darkness with light in a dance track, a spooky folk song, a folk-rock-electronic mashup, an upbeat "group performance" piece with bongo drums, as well as pure, sweet, undiluted Sunshine pop, as witnessed on the title track.
